On January 4-7, 2019, CWA Local 3645 hosted over 50 shop stewards from 22 stations in District 3 at its third annual Steward Leadership Conference in Charlotte, NC. The training was designed to help stewards clearly understand the details of the new Piedmont contract.
Serious safety concerns, including rushed inspections, high stress, and dangerous time pressures are among the issues cited in a new report on conditions for Envoy passenger service agents.
Piedmont passenger service agents ratified a new contract last November. The road to an agreement wasn’t easy, but we can be proud of the solidarity we built among agents throughout the process. I’d like to share some of our lessons learned along the way.

The CWA bargaining team met with the Piedmont bargaining team on March 7, 8, and 9, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. We saw significant progress and movement on a number of our proposals.
On February 28, March 1, and March 2, members of the CWA Bargaining Committee and Deanna Davis from the Advisory Council met with EnvoyBargaining Committee members.
The Local 3645 team recently visited Louisville (SDF), Greenville-Spartanburg (GSP), and Wilmington (ILM). At SDF they were able to help negotiate the return of a terminated agent.
In December, Executive Board members from INT and RDU came together at a Local 3640 meeting in Winston Salem, North Carolina, to share ideas and get to know each other's concerns.
One of our big goals is to get our agents to see the stewards as real resources—as contacts to empower them. And it’s great because we have more and more stewards signing up every day.
Delvorie Meighan has been a passenger service agent for Envoy Airlines at ORD in Chicago for five years and is now a steward. She has shared a story about a successful grievance procedure for a member at O’Hare who was disciplined for failing an aircraft search.
“We work for the same corporation, and we wear the same uniform, so let's stand up for each other,” says Carolyn Marsalek, a thirty-year veteran of the busy American Airlines ORD station and vice president of CWA Local 4201.
