The Federal government has implemented two COVID-19 vaccine mandates for businesses. American Airlines will follow the federal mandate, which requires employees of American mainline, Piedmont, and Envoy to be vaccinated.
During a virtual Congressional Roundtable discussion on October 7, CWA Local 3645 President Donielle Prophete (CLT) and CWA Local 3146 President James McKnight (MIA) joined members of other airport workers’ unions to demand baseline federal wage and benefit standards be mandated for any airport that receives federal funding.
As travel opens up after the lockdowns and quarantines of 2020, reports from every region of the country about incidents of unruly and sometimes violent behavior by passengers are on the rise. CWA is working with other unions, lawmakers, the FAA, DOT, and airline management to find solutions to this urgent issue.
On March 25, 2020, the U.S. Senate passed a $2.2 trillion economic relief bill that included $58 billion in aid for U.S. airlines. CWA worked to ensure the package includes $25 billion for employee wages, salaries, and benefits.

We are calling on Congress and the President to provide immediate federal assistance to lessen the impact of the pandemic.
As the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to affect communities across the globe, CWA leaders are engaging with American, Piedmont, and Envoy to ensure that they are providing CWA agents with comprehensive safety and prevention measures and to ensure they are following our collective bargaining agreements.
Since the ratification of the first collective bargaining agreement with Envoy Air back in August 2019, there has been a powerful wave of enthusiasm growing among passenger service agents across the South. Dozens of agents have volunteered to train as stewards in order to help their fellow agents.
There’s a simple bottom line for every passenger service agent, no matter what their position or the size of their station: We should be able to come to work without fear of angry customers abusing us with words or actions.
Last August our CWA family lost a valued member in a workplace tragedy. Kendrick Hudson, a 24-year-old passenger service agent and member of CWA Local 3645, was killed when the vehicle he was driving at CLT flipped over. Recently the North Carolina DoL cited Piedmont with a $19,600 penalty for safety violations.
Thank you to the nearly 500 Piedmont agents who completed the safety survey conducted by CWA in December 2019. The results are helping us approach management with concrete information to resolve health and safety issues that affect all of us.
